Bilfinger Berger builds new correctional facility in Düsseldorf

German construction firm Bilfinger Berger is to build a new correctional facility in Düsseldorf for the German state of North-Rhine Westphalia. The order has a volume of €120 million. The prison, with space for 850 inmates, will be put into operation in the fall of 2011 and will replace existing facilities which can no longer meet current demand.

Bilfinger Berger has worked out a concept for the energy supply which, compared to conventional technologies, will reduce the cost of energy and maintenance by 20 percent. A combined heat and power unit (CHP) with gas boilers simultaneously generates heat and electricity, resulting in particularly high levels of efficiency. With its comprehensive approach to design, construction and operation, Bilfinger Berger is making a significant contribution to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
