| Fläkt Woods' products for Stadtgalerie shopping centre  Fläkt Woods has supplied the air handling requirements for the new €170 million Stadtgalerie shopping centre in the heart of the German City of Schweinfurt. Built on the site of an old ball bearing factory, the new 22,500 m2 mall is extensive, featuring 100 stores on two levels, with good transport links and almost 1,300 parking spaces. It opened in Spring 2009 and is expected to prove an enormous hit with its Bavarian inhabitants. Fläkt Woods has planned and delivered the air handling requirements for the centre, under a 5-month contract valued at over €2 million. Supporting companies in the retail sector requires a specialist approach from the service provider. Any failure of a centre's building services can prove very costly for the retailer, so it was critical that the products provided met the exacting requirements of developer, ECE Projektmanagement GmbH.To this end, Fläkt Woods' technicians proposed a specific range of the company's products. This included the EU air handlers with high efficiency fans equipped with airflow measurement devices. The 16 supply and exhaust EU units feature run-around coil recovery systems, heating, integrated local cooling and integrated local controls with connection to a BMS system. "We provided the complete HVAC package for the Stadtgalerie Schweinfurt. Our products were accepted for their exclusive environmental properties and because, as a Company, we can provide a range of precision products that meet every requirement of the contract", says Dieter Klee, Fläkt Woods GmbH. The EU range offers all needed functionality and high degree of flexibility. HVAC for new large retail centres is a complex mixture of requirements. A critical factor in specific areas is comfort cooling, with as little air movement as possible, a high degree of energy efficiency and low draught displacement. Fläkt Woods has also supplied air-cooled condensers with axial fans. These are finned water exchangers are designed to reject heat to ambient from refrigerants. The Company also provided 1000 swirl diffusers. With its unique architecture, the new mall provides a modern urban accent in the heart of Schweinfurt. One eye-catching feature is the 230 meters long luminous glass roof of the Gallery.
