| AGC glass used in skywalk added to Saint Rombouts cathedral Made of Stratobel laminated safety glass and installed at a height of 92 metres on the cathedral belfry, this stunning skywalk provides visitors with a breathtaking view over the city of Mechelen, the surrounding area and even Antwerp and Brussels when skies are clear. The skywalk was designed by Sleurs Industrie, in collaboration with Hemelaers Glaswerken. A special 122-metre-tall crane was brought in to install the 14 tonne structure, which includes 10 tonnes of glass. The platform features a spiral staircase with 20 steps, balustrades and a raised floor, all made of very thick safety glass. The project provided an opportunity for AGC Serviglass (a Group subsidiary) to contribute its technical know-how in the form of an advanced glass product: Stratobel. write your comments about the article :: © 2009 Construction News :: home page |
