Civil engineering excellence recognised

Riverside office development Watermark Place has been honoured with the Institution of Civil Engineers London Merit Award 2009, the city's highest honour for civil engineering achievement. Hailed 'an exemplar of sustainable urban design', the 12-storey scheme's three interconnecting buildings provide 60, 000m2 of office space near Cannon Street Station. The award judges were impressed by the way in which the project team worked together to ensure the building was designed and constructed with minimal environmental impact.

The development retains a third of the structure of the site's original building and incorporates innovative features such as triple-skinned façades, motorised sun-tracking louvres and brise-soleil to minimise solar gain.

Rated as BREEAM "excellent", all materials used on the project are evaluated for their environmental impact and the average recycling rate is 83%.
