Aecom JV wins San Francisco central subway project

Engineering and design firm Aecom Technology Corp announced that it has been awarded a $147-million contract to provide program-management services to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) for Phase II of its Central Subway project. AECOM will perform the work as part of a joint venture with EPC Consultants.

The contract, which was approved by the SFMTA's Board of Supervisors, is for five years and has an additional five-year option. Services to be provided by the joint venture include overall program management, overseeing and tracking the related environmental-mitigation plan, risk management, public outreach and regulatory and interagency coordination.

Phase II construction is expected to begin during 2010 with service to the public starting during 2016. Once this phase is complete, the subway will extend from AT&T Park to North Beach, passing under San Francisco's famous Chinatown. Phase III of the project is expected to take the subway through North Beach to Fisherman's Wharf.
