Live/work energy-efficient building in Delray Beach

Affiniti Architects has designed a new four-story, 9, 160-square-foot live/work building in downtown Delray Beach. The energy-efficient, environmentally friendly building utilizes both passive and active systems for reduced energy costs.

These systems include photovoltaic cells, solar water heaters, operable windows, super insulation and a sensitive orientation to the windows that diminishes heat gain in the Florida subtropics. Recycled building materials have also been used wherever possible. The building will be considered for LEED certification.

Out of the nine total duplex units, five are live/work studios with a work space at ground level connected to a studio apartment above. The remaining four upper units are either one- or two-bedroom duplex units. The nine units vary in size from 874 to 1,744 square feet, and all have one and one-half baths. The contextual contemporary design includes expansive amounts of glass and metal ornamentation contrasting with tinted-stucco surfaces.
