Fenestration China still growing

16,700 trade visitors in four days (previous year: 15,400), 261 exhibitors (235) from 12 countries and a total display area of 25,000 m²: Fenestration China, the international exhibition for windows and curtain walls in Peking, grew again for the sixth time in succession. Despite the worldwide recession and continuing financial crisis, there is a big demand for fenestration products and services in China. As leading regional exhibition in Asia, Fenestration China particularly offers international exhibitors the opportunity to make new contacts and gain a foothold in the Chinese growth market. Besides Chinese exhibitors, companies from Germany, the USA, Turkey, Italy, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, India, Japan and Korea used this opportunity in 2008.

This success is all the more encouraging, as it was not exactly expected due to the current economic development: The international financial crisis and the start of the worldwide recession are also worrying the Chinese industry. Moreover, China has just successfully completed an important large national project – the 2008 Summer Olympic Games – and with it many nationwide construction projects. However, the building market in China is still growing firmly in post-Olympic times – a situation which was expressed not least in the growing number of visitors at Fenestration China 2008: The organizers, Nürnberg Global Fairs and CIEC Exhibition Company Ltd., counted altogether 16,700 trade visitors during the four days of the exhibition in the China International Exhibition Center in Peking – almost ten per cent more than the year before.

And they also witnessed an impressive show of products this year: from glass products, hardware, doors, fixing equipment, and machines, installations and tools for working glass, wood or plastic to information on services, associations, research and development, Fenestration China once again reflected the latest developments in the window and curtain wall industry. Extra features in 2008 were special focuses on technological innovations like energy-saving building or modern insulation techniques. The exhibition therefore received appropriate support from a number of different institutions and organizations, including the Ministry of Construction P.R. China, the German Association of Window and Curtain Wall Manufacturers (VFF), the Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA), the Russian Energy Efficient Window Manufacturers (APROK), the Wood Structural Windows and Doors Association of Norway, the Windows and Doors Association of Spain (ASEFAVE), the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) and the International Window Film Association (IWFA).

Fenestration China also took place for the first time as part of the Global Fair Alliance, the cooperation between the industry's four leading exhibitions: Fenestration China, fensterbau/frontale in Nürnberg, Istanbul Window and GlassBuild America will consult each other on dates and core themes in future. This also includes intellectual property rights. A separate consulting company was present at the exhibition specifically for taking care of copyright violations: Some of the companies affected made use of the opportunity to obtain information and advice on the spot.

Besides trade visitors from all parts of China, there were also many international visitors from the region at Fenestration China: Peking also attracted visitors from the neighbouring Asian countries and from Australia, New Zealand, India and Russia. So Fenestration China clearly maintained its position as leading regional exhibition for window and curtain wall manufacture in China and Asia.

This development is also especially encouraging for the 62 (previous year: 48) international exhibitors from Germany, Europe and the United States: Although the 199 (187) Chinese exhibitors clearly accounted for the majority of exhibitors at Fenestration, the exhibition also opened the proverbial window to the new growth market for suppliers from abroad. Among others, the German and American pavilions increased accordingly in size.

So Fenestration China 2009 is accordingly regarded optimistically at present. This will take place again in Peking in November 2009 – as especially the climatic conditions in the northern part of China require far more energy-efficient building than in the usually warm south of the country.
