| Atkins awarded for cutting-edge use of GIS Engineering consultancy WS Atkins has won a prestigious industry accolade for its development of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, which has enabled a collaborative digital setting for sharing business information. The Association of Geographic Information (AGI) awarded Atkins in the Innovation and Best Practice (private sector) category, for its cutting-edge Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) technology and services. One Atkins client, Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (PUSH), uses SDI to manage its strategic flood risk assessment data, which is now hosted on a public facing website and is delivering operational benefits to the 11 local authorities that make up PUSH. Associate director Anne Kemp, who leads Atkins' geospatial department, has overseen its growth from 11 staff to more than 70 in just over two years. Her expertise has helped to develop the SDI as a flexible, collaborative platform that incorporates maps, drawings, spreadsheets and databases into one source. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Construction News :: home page |
