| Vinci wins a tunnel construction contract in the United States France's Vinci Construction Grands Projets, leader (65 %) of a joint-venture with the American contractor Frontier-Kemper Constructors Inc. (35 %), recently signed a contract with the City of Detroit (Detroit Water and Sewerage Department) to build a tunnel for carrying treated wastewater from the city for discharge into the Detroit river. This contract, worth US$299 million (around €230 million), involves digging a 1.9km tunnel with an interior diameter of 6.5m using a pressurized-mud tunnel boring machine. This technique, as yet little used in the USA, is one of VINCI Construction Grands Projets' particular areas of expertise. Work will start in mid-November 2008 and should be completed by December 2012. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Construction News :: home page |
