Innovative power system infrastructure for landscape lighting

After three years of research and development, Q-Tran introduces Q-Scape, the first power system infrastructure invented and engineered specifically for landscape lighting applications. A completely thorough system of 217 originally designed components, Q-Scape includes everything from the fixture to the home or Building - offering flexibility, ease of installation, exceptional industrial design, high performance, low maintenance and long life. The versatile system is UL listed for three different applications: landscape lighting (UL1838); pool & spa lighting (including water fountains); and low voltage luminaire power supply (UL2108) for both indoor and outdoor lighting.

Designed for scalability, the package accommodates additional Q-Set transformers (for energy efficient low voltage halogen) and Q-Set drivers (for even more energy efficient LED lighting), to provide higher wattage as the landscaping project, and its luminaire configuration, grows. Individual transformer cassettes within the housing offer tremendous flexibility for maintenance personnel. Two highlights of the system, the Q-Vault housing and the Q-Set transformer cassettes, received Lightfair International's highest accolades by winning Innovation Awards for Best Landscape Lighting Products, and Best Overall Product Design from 187 entries.

To ensure complete water tightness, Q-Vault was engineered and crafted with a compression molded epoxy composite to meet stringent IP68 standards, an international protection rating that certifies operation during continuous immersion in water. All of Q-Vault's entry points had to be completely sealed, including a robust, 1/3-inch thick door gasket, which has been tightly sealed and highly compressed to approach the strict standards of a marine hatch. NPT (National Pipe Taper) knockouts were designed to accept the new Q-Clik compression fittings or a conduit. If the conduit, which could become an open pathway for water, is used, then we offer a sealing kit containing putty and re-enterable 3M epoxy. Q-Clik, which self-seals to Q-Tran's new Q-Wire and is installed with field drilled holes, was engineered with a double gasket, longer neck, and a rubber insert that molds to the wire, enabling Q-Tran's Q-Vault housing, Q-Clik fittings and Q-Wire to achieve the IP68 listing.

The new Q-Set is an innovative cassette featuring interchangeable modules with toroidal transformers, ranging from 180 to 900 watts for low voltage halogen and eight more models for LED cassettes, that can be mounted above ground and inground, for both outdoor and indoor lighting applications. These power centers are engineered with hydraulic magnetic circuit breakers on both the primary and the secondary, with an internal auto reset thermal breaker to disconnect the primary in case of an overload or improper dimming. Each cassette features five voltage taps, allowing varying run lengths or loads off the same unit. Shorter runs can be used with lower voltage taps, as the drop is less voltage, while fixtures located further away need to recover voltage from a higher tap. "Green" strategies are realized with a 10-25 percent energy savings over industry standard models.
