| Piezoelectric-based wind power system Renewable energy inventor, Rick Dickson, is touting his "Wind Tree", second generation, piezoelectric-based wind power system as an affordable way for suburban homeowners in moderately windy areas to benefit from wind produced electricity. The Wind Tree concept bio-mimics a real tree, using artificial piezoelectric leaves made from Advanced Fiber Composite materials. The Wind Tree looks like a real tree, but produces electricity right in a homeowner's back yard, which can then be either sold to the local power grid, or used as a back-up/auxiliary power supply. While the system is not cheap, it is affordable when life cycle costs, including repair and maintenance and power distribution costs are considered. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Construction News :: home page |
