| Hochtief Construction receives the ECCS Award for Steel Bridges Hochtief Construction has received the first ECCS Award for Steel Bridges 2008 presented by the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork in recognition of the merits of the St. Kilian Viaduct, to the east of Frankfurt am Main. The jury selected the 450 meter-long bridge for its convincing overall appearance. The St. Kilian Viaduct is distinguished by the graceful integration of a composite deck with a tubular truss structure, combined with slender vertical supports. The project was realized in 2006 by a joint venture between Hochtief Construction and MCE Stahl und Maschinenbau on behalf of DEGES, the government authority in charge of the German Unity trunk road planning and construction program. The St. Kilian Viaduct, which is on the A73 highway, spans the River Erle, a railroad line and the B247 federal road. Its visually light architecture permits a clear view of the valley between Schleusingen and St. Kilian. Situated between the A73 junctions of Suhl-Friedberg and Schleusingen, it is an architectural landmark which meets the highest esthetic standards. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Construction News :: home page |
