| Bechtel awarded contracts for power laboratories The U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program announced that Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corporation (BMPC) has been awarded contracts to operate the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories. The five-year contracts with the Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command are valued at $6 billion. BMPC will assume operation of the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories on Feb. 1, 2009 following a four-month transition period. BMPC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI). The Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, with locations in Pittsburgh, PA; Idaho Falls, ID; and Charleston, SC, is currently operated by Bechtel Bettis, Inc.
