Tebodin wins contract for fire fighting training center in Qatar

Dutch engineering firm Tebodin, Consultants & Engineers, an operating company of Royal BAM Group, has won the contract for the design of the Ras Laffan Emergency & Safety College in Quatar. This will be the world's largest training center for fire fighting and rescue teams. The project is an initiative of Qatar Petroleum (QP), the largest oil and gas operator in Qatar. The training center will be built in Ras Laffan, the industrial town of Qatar, where Shell is currently constructing the largest Gas to Liquid (GTL) factory in the world. The site which measures approximately one hundred hectares will contain 28 training situations and simulations, including a petrochemical factory setting, an aeroplane and car crash, a ship accident and large (oil) fires. There are advanced plans to extend the training scenarios with emergency situations in residential areas, a tower block of flats and a shopping center. The duration of the project is thirty months. The training center is expected to be fully operational in 2010.
