| bauma China 2008 poised to be a record-breaker ![]() According to China´s National Statistical Office, it was investment activity, above all in the building sector, that was the driving force behind the strong overall development of China´s economy in the first six months of 2008. Investment in construction in this period reached a volume of €210 billion, which is 25 percent higher than the same period the previous year. This means that around 18 percent of GDP went into investment in building and construction, a proportion that is twice as high as, for example, in Germany. Currently under construction are, for example, several thousand kilometres of motorway, airport extensions, new large-scale airports and 220 port projects, with which China is seeking to double its capacity for container traffic by 2020. The biggest project of all currently is in Tianjin, 160 km east of Beijing. So far a sum of between three and four billion euros has been invested in this site alone. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Construction News :: home page |
