| SNC-Lavalin's nuclear power JV wins contract in South Africa SNC-Lavalin Nuclear and Murray & Roberts announced that Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (Pty) Ltd has awarded their joint venture company, Murray & Roberts SNC-Lavalin Nuclear (Pty) Ltd. (MRSLN), a contract to provide engineering, procurement, project and construction management services for Phase II of the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) Demonstration Power Plant at Koeberg, South Africa. Phase II of the project entails construction of a commercial scale power plant at Koeberg near Cape Town, which is subject to obtaining a nuclear licence from the National Nuclear Regulator and a positive Record of Decision on the Environmental Impact Assessment. The power plant will use advanced Generation IV technology and supply about 165 MWe (electrical) to South Africa's national grid once in service. Phase I, for the project's scope definition, was completed in June 2008. Phase II work began in July 2008 with an expected date of completion of September 2014.
