Hochtief subsidiary awarded Canadian design-build contract

Flatiron Construction Corp., one of the largest bridge and infrastructure contractors in the U.S., secured a C$995 million (US$976 million) contract to design and construct the northwest portion of a new ring road around the city of Edmonton, known as Anthony Henday Drive North. Flatiron, a subsidiary of German construction company Hochtief, is managing the design-build team as part of the larger Public-Private Partnership (P3) consortium NorthwestConnect. Flatiron's portion of the design-build contract is 66 percent.

The new 21-kilometer (13-mile) north portion of the ring road will extend from Anthony Henday Drive at Yellowhead Trail on the west side of Edmonton to Manning Drive Freeway in the north. It will be a two- and three-lane road with 27 bridge structures and eight interchanges. This is the third portion of the ring road to be commissioned by the Alberta government. Construction will begin in August 2008 and will be completed by November 2011.
