Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald JV designs Barometer of Health

Balfour Beatty and Mott MacDonald's integrated joint venture partnership, InterRoute has developed a new website for the Highways Agency that monitors the performance of traffic management systems operating on motorways in South West England.

Named the Barometer of Health, the website displays the real-time fault status of roadside emergency telephones, motorway signals, motorway message signs and MIDAS (motorway incident detection automatic signalling) and relays the information to the South West Regional Control Centre in Bristol.

The website provides motorway operators with accurate and up-to-date information on the performance of traffic management systems in Highways Agency Area 2, which covers Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire, Bristol, Bath, Somerset, Wiltshire, Swindon and parts of Dorset and Devon.

The Barometer of Health will help the Highways Agency monitor the performance of their subsystems and devices more effectively, by integrating data into one 'dashboard'-style presentation format that can be viewed by sector or by device.
