Vestas receives order for 48 MW in France

Vestas France has received an order from EOLE-RES for 24 units of the V90-2.0 MW wind turbine (48 MW) for the Mont Gimont project, located in the Haute-Marne department in the Champagne-Ardennes region.

Based in Avignon in the south of France, EOLE-RES is the fruit of an alliance between the French developer, Eole Technologie and Renewable Energy Systems (RES). With more than 1,500 MW currently under development, and 300 MW already installed and under construction on the French territory, among these more than 170 MW with Vestas wind turbines, EOLE-RES is considered one of the leaders in France.

"We are very satisfied with this new order, which confirms our good business relationship with FES, who has been a Vestas key account customer since January 2008," says Nicolas Wolff, General Manager of Vestas France SAS, and continues: "By strengthening our collaboration with this major player in the industry, we contribute to increasing the general acceptance of wind power as a clean, competitive and independent energy source in France, and at the same time we participate in the creation of skilled jobs in the country."

The location of the Mont Gimont project includes five municipalities: Cerisieres, Ambonville, Flammerecourt, Guindrecourt-sur-Blaise and Rouecourt. With an estimated annual production of around 109 GWh, the wind power plant will cover the yearly consumption of approx 43,600 French households .

The contract includes supply, installation, commissioning, VestasOnline Business SCADA system, as well as a five-year service agreement. The foundation delivery is scheduled to start in March 2009 and the turbine delivery in August 2009. The project will be completed by the first quarter of 2010.

In 2007, 888 MW were installed in France taking the cumulative capacity to 2,471 MW, which makes France the fourth largest European market in wind generating capacity. Having experienced a growth rate of 56 per cent between 2006 and 2007, France is one of the most dynamic wind energy markets in Europe.
