Black & Veatch provides analysis for "20 Percent Wind by 2030"

U.S.-based Black & Veatch announced its participation in a collaborative industry and government effort to explore the viability of wind providing 20 percent of the United State's electricity.

The Black & Veatch study 20 Percent Wind Energy Penetration in the United States: A Technical Analysis of the Energy Resource, was developed for the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) in support of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) recently released 20 Percent Wind Energy by 2030 report.

For the report, Black & Veatch developed assumptions on wind resource, wind capital cost forecasts, wind turbine performance improvements and conventional fossil fuel generation costs forecasts to determine if achieving the 20 percent goal was technically and economically feasible. These assumptions were developed in consultation with wind turbine manufacturers, developers, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Energy Information Administration.
