| Bilfinger Berger, Siemens to build Edinburgh's new tram system The city of Edinburgh has awarded a contract for the construction of its new tram line to Germany's Bilfinger Berger and Siemens. The consortium under the leadership of Bilfinger Berger is now responsible for the core section of the 18.5-kilometer line and will ensure that it is fully operational at the end of the construction period. The contract has a volume of €350 million, Bilfinger Berger's share amounts to €190 million. Edinburgh is investing a total of €640 million, making this the largest infrastructure project currently being undertaken in Scotland. The city's new tram system will begin operation in mid 2011. It will run from the Edinburgh Airport through the center of the city to the area of Newhaven in the north. Bilfinger Berger will carry out construction of the tram line itself, including numerous bridges and supporting structures, with technical infrastructure supplied by Siemens. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Construction News :: home page |
