Bilfinger Berger receives major orders in Australia

German construction giant Bilfinger Berger has received major orders for transportation infrastructure projects in Australia with a total volume of €200 million.

In Melbourne, Bilfinger Berger will expand and modernize the West Gate Freeway, which is among the city's most frequently used traffic links. Bilfinger Berger will extend sections of the freeway and add lanes to existing stretches. The project, with a volume of €100 million, is slated for completion in mid 2010. Bilfinger Berger is already responsible for the expansion of another section of the city freeway.

In Brisbane, Bilfinger Berger is building the first part of the Northern Busway, a special lane reserved exclusively for a new express bus route. This will reduce travel times in public transportation and lead to a reduction in traffic volume for the city. The order has a volume of €100 million and completion is expected in 2009.

Both projects are based on alliance contracts. This contract model, common in Australia, is used when the scope of work to be done can only be defined over the course of the project. Alliance contracts provide for a balanced distribution of risks and ensure that decisions can be made quickly during the construction phase.
