Lafarge names new director of research & development

French cement maker Lafarge announces the appointment of Pascal Casanova as Group Director of Research and Development. He replaces Denis Maître, who has been appointed as Managing Director of Lafarge's Aggregates & Concrete business in France.

Pascal Casanova, who is 40, is a graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées. He wrote his doctoral thesis on concrete while at the Ponts et Chaussées Central Laboratory.

He joined Lafarge in 1999 as Technical director, where he worked on Ductal, the ultra-high performance concrete, handling the transition from the research phase to the industrialization phase.

Pascal Casanova will be based at the Lafarge Research Center in L'Isle d'Abeau, near Lyons, which is the world's leading building materials research facility, with more than 200 researchers of different nationalities.
