Hitachi introduces a new 18V lithium ion hammer drill

Hitachi Power Tools announced the new DV18DCL 18-Volt Hammer Drill as the newest addition to their compact series of lithium ion cordless tools. The DV18DCL Hammer Drill is powered by a lightweight and long-lasting l.SAh lithium ion battery to deliver a class-leading 345 in/lbs of torque. This compact tool is loaded with features for convenience, comfort and control, making it ideal for any drilling, driving and fastening application. Lithium ion technology provides the DV18DCL a steady stream of power for the duration of every battery charge, from the moment the trigger is pulled until the charge cycle is exhausted.

Hitachi's lithium ion batteries can be charged and recharged up to three times the number of cycles of traditional batteries, saving the user costly replacements. Not only do lithium ion batteries last longer, but they are also half the weight of NiCd and NiMH batteries. This significantly reduces the overall tool weight, minimizing user fatigue while maximizing control. The DV18DCL, as with any tool in Hitachi's 18V cordless series (DMR, DVF3, DL, and DFL), is backwards compatible, accepting NiCd and NiMH 18V and various Ah capacity batteries, adding even more flexibility and value across the Hitachi line.

Compact at only 9.37" in length and lightweight at 4.2 Ibs, the DV18DCL feels like a 12V tool, while offering the power and performance of an 18V. The DV18DCL gets the job done with an impact rate of up to 21, 000 BPM while giving the user ultimate control with a two-speed transmission for no-load speeds of 0-400 or 1500 RPM. In addition to specialized clutch settings for drilling-mode and hammering-mode, another twenty-two driving stages makes this the right tool for both high torque applications and precision driving.

Power and versatility are not all this hammer drill has to offer with features insuring user comfort and convenience incorporated into the DVlSDCL's design. Bits are held securely during use with a ratcheting chuck lock and can be changed quickly and easily with the 1/2" keyless system. A patented 5-position belt hook with an integrated bit holder insures the tool and accessories are always convenient and accessible. A non-slip elastomer grip handle provides comfort, control and safety.

The universal charger, included with the DV18DCL, accepts 7.2V up to 18V lithium ion, NiCd, and NiMH batteries and only takes 30 minutes to charge a l.SAh capacity battery. By efficiently allowing each cell to charge at its own rate, Hitachi's charger prevents overloading the battery. Unlike most chargers that charge all cells in a battery indiscriminately, Hitachi's proprietary circuitry senses when a cell is full and ceases flow to that cell while the remaining cells continue to charge to capacity. Overload and discharge protection in this charger play a big part in extending the life of batteries.

The DV18DCL comes with Hitachi's industry leading 5-year warranty, two l.SAh lithium ion batteries, a Universal charger, driver bit, and sturdy carrying case. For a more affordable option that includes the same tool-body features and powerful performance of the DV18DCL, the DV18DVC 18 Volt Cordless Hammer Drill is available with two 1.4Ah NiCd batteries.
