V90-3.0 MW offshore wind turbine back on the market again

In early 2007, Vestas decided temporarily to withdraw its V90-3.0 MW offshore wind turbine from the market due to problems with the turbine's gearbox. During the summer/autumn of 2007, the cause of the problems with the gearbox was mapped and at the moment, the gearbox is taken through the last steps in Vestas' quality assurance model.

Based on the positive results from the already completed tests, Vestas has decided again to release the V90-3.0 MW offshore wind turbine for sale effective from 1 May 2008.

"The V90-3.0 MW offshore turbine with the new gearbox solution has now been thoroughly tested at our advanced testing facilities in Arhus, Denmark. We still need to carry out a few more tests, but we are convinced that the turbine will also pass these," says Finn Stram Madsen, President of Vestas Technology R&D.

"Vestas Offshore is looking forward again to selling the V90-3.0 MW turbine for offshore for delivery in 2009, enabling us to do our part in securing Vestas' position as No. 1 in Modem Energy,"says Anders S0e-Jensen, President of Vestas Offshore A/S.
