First stretch of Autopista Nororiente expressway opened in Chile

The western stretch of the Autopista Nororiente expressway was officially opened on Wednesday 6 February 2008 by the Chilean Minister of Public Works, Sergio Bitar. It was built by Sacyr, a construction company, and is managed by Itínere Infraestructuras, an infrastructure concession company, both of which are subsidiaries of the Sacyr Vallehermoso group.

The Acceso Nororiente expressway will be a total of 22 kilometers long and the maximum concession term is 40 years. The expected investment in building the expressway is around €200 million. The stretch that has opened is 7.7 kilometers long and links Avenida El Valle in the Chicureo area to kilometer point 21 on Ruta 5 Norte (on the Pan-American highway). The remaining 14 kilometers consist of the eastern stretch, which is more complex due to the area's relief.

Acceso Nororiente will come fully into operation at the beginning of 2009. It will be the fifth urban expressway in Santiago and one of the main roads in the metropolitan region, as it joins the east and north areas of the capital and will benefit more than 500,000 people.
