| Strabag and Siemens conclude strategic partnership for Sochi German electronics and engineering giant Siemens and Strabag, the Austrian construction group, which is coowned by Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska, have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly bid for selected large-scale projects to be completed in preparation of the 22nd Winter Olympics in Sochi. In the near future, the Russian government will issue a call for tenders for a number of large-scale projects including the upgrade of sports facilities, the construction of hotel facilities and the Olympic Village, as well as the modernisation of infrastructure and the communication networks. The first projects for which the two companies are likely to place a joint bid will be a railway project, construction of a cement factory (within the framework of the joint venture with Basel Cement), the extension of Sochi's Adler Airport, the construction of power plants and a port facility. Strabag ecently acquired specialty know-how in this area through the recent acquisition of Croatian port builder Pomgrad inzenjering and a stake in Hamburgbased hydraulic engineering specialist Möbius.
