| Black & Veatch-designed plant named best in Asia Black & Veatch, an engineering consulting and construction company, announced that the Shidongkou Power Station was named Best Asian Gas Power Plant by Asian Power in its Annual Asian Power Awards. The plant was recognized for its environmental advances and operational efficiencies. Shidongkou Power Station, located near Shanghai, commenced commercial operation approximately 13 months from the start of construction and provides a total output of 1,200 megawatts (MW) for China's growing electricity demand. Black & Veatch provided engineering design and on-site technical oversight for the project with its joint venture partner Hebei Design Institute. The Shidongkou Power Station is the first operational Siemens combined cycle unit of its type in China, incorporating innovative technologies introduced by Black & Veatch. The power station is the first in China to use a common header for its circulating water system, resulting in reduced costs and increased reliability. The plant design also incorporates features to reduce wastewater and air emissions. This project was also acknowledged for its operations and maintenance efficiencies which have resulted in significantly less staff when compared to power plants of similar size in China. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Construction News :: home page |
