Thiess secures mining services contracts

A wholly owned subsidiary of Leighton Holdings, Thiess has secured an infrastructure and mining services contract for the Lake Vermont Coal Mine near Dysart in Central Queensland comprising site civil works, rail spur formation, workshop and office facilities and an 800TPH coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP).

The contract covered total mining operations including planning, drill and blast, overburden removal, coal mining, coal processing and the maintenance of all fixed and mobile plant. The contract has an estimated value of about $500 million.

Thiess has also secured a $500 million contract for coal mining services with Tarong Energy Corporation for the Tarong Mine near Kingaroy in Queensland’s South Burnett region. Tarong Energy will take ownership of the Tarong Mine, which feeds the adjacent Tarong power stations, on 31 January 2008.
