Barratt to start work on two flagship developments in the North East

Barratt Developments, Britain's best-known homebuilder, will this month start work on two flagship projects in the North East which will provide around 1,000 new homes in total. The major projects are under way on the former Stella South power station site at Blaydon and at Whitworth Park, Spennymoor.

Barratt Developments secured planning permission for 261 homes at Blaydon after six years of negotiations. The site – in a prime riverside location close to the MetroCentre, one of Europe's premier shopping and leisure attractions – is one of the largest brownfield opportunities in the region.

At Spennymoor, Barratt Developments this week started work on the first phase of 100 homes at Whitworth Park. The project will eventually create a mixed, balanced community of around 700 new homes within easy walking distance of the town centre. The 160-acre site is the largest undeveloped greenfield allocation in an adopted Local Plan in the North East.
