Iberdrola to back BBC Earth documentary

Iberdrola Renovables, the renewable energies unit of Spain's multinational utilities group Iberdrola, along with the Biodiversity Foundation, belonging to the Spanish Ministry of the Environment, have decided to lend their support to the BBC documentary feature film Planet Earth, reflecting their commitment to the environment and sustainable development. The BBC spent some $47 million and five years producing the film and the series on which it was based.

The film directed by Alistair Fothergill and Mark Linfield, will have its world premiere on 22 September at the 55th annual San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain, though it is not competing for an award. It was shot at some 200 locations by 40 specialist crews using the most avant-garde techniques.

The aim of the documentary, in whose Spanish debut the Fundación Biodiversidad and Iberdrola Renovables are taking part, is to show the planet during an entire journey around the sun, stressing the diversity of wildlife, the climate and the landscape through three protagonists --the polar bear, the elephant, and the whale.
