Kone to design elevators for The Leadenhall Building

Kone, a Finland-based engineering company specializing in the transportation of people, has signed a contract with British Land for the design, delivery and installation of all elevators and escalators for The Leadenhall Building in London, U.K. Designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners, the new tower will be 225 meters tall making it the tallest building in the City of London. The Leadenhall Building project will be equipped with 29 elevators and 3 escalators. When installed, 22 of the elevators will be fully scenic exterior glass elevators with a maximum speed of 8.0 m/s and a travel of approximately 220 meters. The installation of the equipment will start in July 2009 and is planned for completion in December 2010.
