| Carillion and John Laing scoop Project of the Year Award Support services and construction company Carillion - together with specialist owner, operator and manager of public sector infrastructure assets John Laing - have won its second top industry award for work to upgrade the southern section of the Chiltern line, including Marylebone and Beaconsfield stations, for Chiltern Railways. Evergreen 2 was a two year Design, Build, Finance and Transfer (DBFT) contract and made UK rail history as the first of its kind in the rail industry. It was completed and handed over both on time and below budget. At National Rail Awards the Evergreen 2 scooped the prestigious Project of the Year Award. The project has previously scooped Best Operational Central Government project at the Public Private Finance Awards hosted at The Grosvenor Hotel, London, held in May. Work included the provision of two additional platforms at Marylebone, permanent way alterations, drainage, lighting and signalling works. Beaconsfield Station also benefited from an increase in line speed to 75 mph created by permanent way realignment and signalling enhancements. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Construction News :: home page |
