| Carillion supports Warwickshire Wildlife Trust butterfly project A Warwickshire butterfly habitat is to get a welcome boost after receiving a £4,200 donation from support services and construction company Carillion. As part of its Natural Habitats scheme, Wolverhampton-based Carillion has given the money to Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, which will be used to set up a new project in Ryton Wood, Princethorpe, focussing on the rare wood white butterfly. Ryton Wood Site of Special Scientific Interest is one of the finest woodlands in the county and home to 33 species of butterfly, including the threatened wood white. The money will enable the Trust to manage the woodland to encourage butterflies by creating areas of young trees next to wildflower rich grassland. Blocks or ‘scallops’ of the woodland will be cut alongside the grassland to encourage the growth of butterfly food plants such as greater bird’s foot trefoil and vetches. As a result of the grant the Trust will also be holding a woodland open day for the public in October along with introductory conservation events. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Construction News :: home page |
