| Lafarge reports 17 percent rise in second quarter net profit French cement giant Lafarge SA reported a 17% rise in second quarter net profit. Sales up 6% in second quarter and 8% in first half at constant scope and exchange rates. Lafarge's net profit increased to euro 572 million ($781.52 million) in the three months to June from euro 490 million ($669.49 million) a year earlier. "The increase in our earnings in the first half reflects the structural improvement in our operations and the cost reductions implemented throughout the Group," Chief Executive Bruno Lafont said in a statement. "Our margins are up sharply. The quality of the results of our North American operations in the current market environment is worth highlighting.
