easyCredit Stadium awarded EU environmental certificate

For the second time, the Nuremberg easyCredit Stadium has received certification in accordance with the European Union's EMAS (Environmental Management and Auditing System) for its innovative environmental concept. The easyCredit Stadium is run by an operating company comprising Hochtief Facility Management GmbH and the City of Nuremberg. The EU's EMAS Directive governs the voluntary participation of business enterprises in an environmental management system.

The specialists from the EU certification body confirm that the Nuremberg Stadium meets the strict EMAS standards in the fields of water management, energy utilization, waste management and mobility. One good example of the ecologically oriented operation of the easyCredit Stadium is rainwater processing. Under the entrance area to the stadium there are three basins with a capacity of around one million liters which collect the rainwater from the grandstand roofs, the soccer pitches, the synthetic running track and most of the uncovered areas. The water is subsequently used for irrigating the entire soccer field and thus makes the stadium largely independent of public water supplies in this respect.

Other positive solutions are a photovoltaic system on the stadium roof to supply parts of the building with ecologically generated electricity, and some vegetation-covered flat roofs producing environmentally acceptable heat insulation. At the same time, the EMAS specialists reported very positively on the stadium's very good transport connections, particularly where local public transport is concerned.
