Otis' 'green' elevators selected for three projects in Russia

Otis Elevator Company, the world's largest manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, was awarded contracts for three large commercial projects in Russia: the Auchan hypermarket in Moscow, the Metropolis office and shopping mall complex, also in Moscow, and the Sony Trade Centre in Yekaterinburg.

The Gen2 elevator's patented coated-steel flat-belt drive system technology and gearless machine do not require lubrication, making the system cleaner for the environment. In addition, its gearless, permanent-magnet machine consumes half the energy of conventional geared machines.

For the Metropolis project, Otis will provide 75 units including 49 Gen2 elevators, 24 escalators and two moving walkways. When completed, the project will comprise two office buildings, a shopping mall and parking garage located in northern Moscow along the main highway connecting downtown Moscow with the Sheremetyevo-2 Airport.

For the Sony Trade Centre, Otis will provide 10 elevators, eight of which are Otis' Gen2 systems. This retail center will be located in Yekaterinburg, located 1,667 km (1,036 miles) east of Moscow.

Otis will also install 57 moving walkways, escalators and elevators for the Auchan hypermarket in southwest Moscow. Auchan, a French retail multinational company, has worked on other projects with Otis. Currently, Otis is completing an installation at another Auchan hypermarket in Moscow's Sokolniki District.
