The Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Algeria awarded to the Italian construction company Astaldi Group the contract for the design and construction of 120 km of the new railway line Saida-Moulay Slissen, for an amount of € 616 million.

The contract foresees also the design and the construction of 30 railway bridges and viaducts, 16 overpasses, 4 stations, a freight terminal, a deposit for maintenance activities and 3 interchange stations, throughout a track extending perpendicularly to the Mecheria-Redjem Demouche railway line, presently also under construction by Astaldi. It is expected that the works will start by November 2007 and will be completed within 46 months.
