| Costain wins 2007 IHT Award for Effective Partnering The Costain Group has won the 2007 Institution of Highways and Transportation (IHT) Award for Effective Partnering. The Award focused on Costain's recent Porth Relief Road project in South Wales and the success of partnering on that contract. At Porth one of the major problems was the constricted topography which meant that some 2500 homes were within 10 metres of the site boundary. As a consequence, Costain worked closely with the client, local council Rhondda Cynon Taf, to ensure a high-grade community relations programme was in operation at all times. The construction was a resounding success including construction of a 160m long bowstring arch bridge in the town centre. In total, 13 bridges were constructed and 47 retaining walls. The road itself was 7.5 km in length. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Construction News :: home page |
