New record at Techtextil and Avantex

The two trade fairs for technical textiles and intelligent apparel in Frankfurt am Main closed their doors after setting a new record of 23,200 trade visitors (2005: 21,730) from 80 countries. The proportion of trade visitors from outside Germany rose by eight to 54 percent. Thus, every second visitor came from abroad, in particular, Europe, North America and Asia. Around 60 percent of visitors to the 12th Techtextil, International Trade Fair for Technical Textiles and Nonwovens (1,086 exhibitors), are managers with decision-making and purchasing authority and come from several different branches of industry. The 4th Avantex, International Forum for Innovative Apparel Textiles (33 exhibitors), was attended primarily by experts from the industry, fashion, design, sports apparel and medical technology.

The economic situation in the sector was rated as being better than ever before: 88 percent of exhibitors and 89 percent of visitors share this optimistic outlook that, in the case of German visitors, leapt to 91 percent from 75 percent and, in the case of foreign visitors, to 87 percent from 77 percent in 2005.

The ten leading European visitor nations were, after Germany, Italy, France, Great Britain, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Poland and the Czech Republic. In the case of non-European countries, the ranking was headed by the USA, Japan and India.

This year's Avantex scored with a series of production-ready innovations based on nano and Bluetooth technology. Powerful visitor magnets were the special show of products awarded the Avantex Innovation Prize and the practice-oriented presentation of 'Smart Textiles' for outdoor, sport, medical and fashion use.

Another first at Techtextil and Avantex 2007 were the presentations made by young, innovative companies from Germany: a new support programme of the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology made it possible for them to take part in leading international trade fairs in Germany.

Future-oriented product innovations were honoured at a ceremony on Monday evening with the presentation of six Techtextil Innovation Prizes and three Avantex Innovation Prizes. The winners come from Germany, France, Switzerland and Great Britain. The prize-winning projects of the 9th Student Competition, 'Textile Structures for New Building', came from Germany, Austria, Mexico and the USA.

The next Techtextil and Avantex trade fairs will be held in Frankfurt am Main from 16 to 18 June 2009.
