| Atkins completed study on evolution of transport planning A research team led by Atkins has completed the final report on the recent and current evolution of local transport planning across England. The study has been started in September 2003 and continued Atkins' earlier research on the introduction of the Local Transport Plan policy. Expenditure by authorities on Local Transport Plans has been in excess of Government capital allocations and the scale, breadth, and complexity of delivery has increased substantially. The report estimates that over £26 billion has been invested in local transport during LTP through a combination of capital, revenue and external funding. This has delivered over 320,000 maintenance and integrated transport schemes, and good progress has been made on over 100 major schemes. The project was undertaken by members of Atkins' transport planning team in Epsom, Surrey and Birmingham under the direction of Transport Planning managing director Dr Andy Southern, with major contributions from PricewaterhouseCoopers and Warwick Business School. As a follow-up to the study, Atkins is now advising Department for Transport on options for new arrangements for local transport planning beyond 2011. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Construction News :: home page |
