| Barratt drops JV with Terrapin International British housebuilder Barratt is entering into a number of alliances with specialist off-site suppliers to provide a customised range of steel and timber frame systems to meet increasing demand for Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) products. The move, which will provide Barratt with a broader range of building solutions delivering low to zero carbon homes at affordable prices, will see the discontinuation of its Advance Housing steel frame joint venture with Terrapin International. The partnering agreements – which include an alliance with Kingspan Off-site – will enable Barratt to comply effectively with the Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) agenda and meet the Code for Sustainable Homes. Advance homes were planned on parts of the Government's Design For Manufacture sites at Upton, Northants and Allerton Bywater near Leeds. These will now be built using either steel frames from Kingspan or timber frame. Kingspan Off-site is part of Kingspan PLC, which has invested heavily in capacity for metal framing and architectural facades at its Sherburn plant in North Yorkshire. In late 2006 the company acquired two of the UK's leading timber frame manufacturers. Kingspan Off-site is now the leading manufacturer of both steel and timber-framed housing in the UK. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Construction News :: home page |
