Hill International JV wins contract for highway project in Romania

Marlton, N.J.-based construction manager Hill International Inc., announced that a joint venture in which Hill is the lead partner has been awarded a contract from the Romanian National Company of Motorways and National Roads to manage the design and construction of the Constanta By-Pass highway project in Constanta, Romania.

Hill's partner in the joint venture is WSP International Sweden A.B. The nearly six-year contract has an estimated value to the joint venture of approximately EUR 6.7 million ($8.8 million). Hill's share of the contract is estimated to be approximately EUR 4.0 million ($5.3 million).

The Constanta By-Pass will provide an approximately 23-kilometer (14-mile) north/south highway by-pass around the city of Constanta. The by-pass will route heavy port traffic away from the city center and will also provide a free-flowing route for heavy tourist traffic from Bucharest and the north of Romania to the popular seaside resorts south of Constanta. Construction is expected to begin in April 2007 and is scheduled to be completed by February 2013.

The joint venture's services include managing the preparation of preliminary design and tender documents, procurement, and construction works supervision for the approximately EUR 80 million ($105 million) project.
