Amec's Edinbane wind farm proposal supported by Highland Council

Councillors from The Planning, Development, Europe and Tourism Committee of The Highland Council have given their full support to Amec's plans to develop the Edinbane wind farm proposal. The proposal consists of 18 wind turbines and will have a capacity of 23.4MW. During the planning hearing councillors listened to presentations both for and against the proposal. Amec's proposal was supported by the local crofters, both of the local community councils, and the Highland Renewable Energy Group which represents highland businesses.

Highland councillors first voted to support the proposal in November 2002 when it consisted of 27 wind turbines. However, before the planning permission was issued, a peatslide at Derrybrien in Ireland and a request from Scottish Natural Heritage for more information on golden eagles resulted in Amec being asked to carry out further environmental work. This environmental work has ultimately led to the new layout of 18 wind turbines.
