Strabag concentrates on road construction

In the 2006 financial year Strabag AG, Cologne, has continued to focus on road construction, the core competence. The company was able to achieve a considerable increase in both output and order intake despite sale of the Building and Civil Engineering Segment to Ed. Züblin AG, Stuttgart. In the year under review orders received by the Strabag Group rose by 4% to approx. Euro 4.2 billion. Whereas a slight minus was to be noticed in the domestic market due to the reduction in building activities, orders received by the 35% participation Bau Holding Beteiligungs AG again exceeded the previous year's already exceptionally high value by 16%. New foreign contracts were won, inter alia, in Russia, Poland and Ireland. All in all, orders received abroad rose by 9%.

In comparison with the previous year the company's construction output showed an overall increase of 6% and amounted to Euro 4.6 billion. The 5% rise in Germany is mainly due to purchase of the Preusse Group and the remaining 50% in Stratebau GmbH while, as expected, in the building segment sale of the subsidiaries and completion of existing orders in hand led to a drop in output. The proportion of construction output abroad rose to 45% (prior year: 44%). On 31 December, the order book stood at Euro 2.9 billion, which is 10% lower than on the previous year's reporting date.
