Stone+tec sees a growing appreciation amongst consumers

The signs are good for Stone+tec 2007, which takes place in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 6-9 June 2007: the demand for natural stone is rising again. Particularly the German market for natural stone has not made a good impression over the past years due to the weak building industry at home and booming regions abroad. Germany has, however, remained one of the largest natural stone countries in the world and is now increasingly looking positively to the future again. The recovery of the overall economy also affects the natural stone sector: Calculations by the Deutscher Naturwerkstein-Verband e.V. (DNV) show that production in Germany rose by altogether 5.2 per cent in a comparison of the years 2004/2005. German consumption increased by 12.2 per cent in quantity in the same period, although its value rose by only 4 per cent. Imports of natural stone to Germany even grew by almost 17 per cent. This trend is also confirmed for trade in natural stone from all over the world.

The Peter Parler Award will be presented for the fifth time at Stone+tec 2007 on 7 June. The award is presented for exemplary achievements by stonemasons in the preservation of historic buildings and monuments, i.e. high-quality work on listed buildings of natural stone. The award is presented by the Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz and the Bundesinnungsverband des Deutschen Steinmetz-, Stein- und Holzbildhauerhandwerks. The Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz provides altogether 15,000 euros prize money.

The German Natural Stone Award will be presented for the 13th time at Stone+tec on 8 June 2007. The award is worth a total of 30,000 euros and is presented by the Deutscher Naturwerkstein-Verband e.V. (DNV) in cooperation with the Bund Deutscher Architekten (BDA).

The award under the motto of "Interior – Architecture – Exterior: Living and working with natural stone" presents prizes for building concepts with natural stone for interior and exterior use that stand for an exemplary level of architectural quality: aesthetically demanding, innovative and ecological. Eligible for entry are architects, interior designers and landscape architects and entries can be submitted until 12 January 2007.
