WA Government go ahead for new Perth-Bunbury Highway

The Western Australian Government has awarded an alliance contract for designing and constructing the new Perth Bunbury Highway to the Southern Gateway Consortium. Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said she had approved the $511 million contract which will see a new 70.5km dual carriageway road constructed from the Kwinana Freeway Extension to Lake Clifton. The Southern Gateway Consortium, which includes Leighton Contractors, WA Limestone and GHD Consulting, would build the highway in partnership with Main Roads WA.

Ms MacTiernan said the new Perth Bunbury Highway would provide a major strategic link to the rapidly growing Peel and South-West regions. "We are ready to begin work this month, as soon as we have environmental approval from the Federal Government and its commitment to contributing $170 million to the project, " she said.
