Top regeneration award for Barratt chief executive

Outgoing Barratt Group Chief Executive David Pretty has been voted 'Regeneration Champion of the Year' in the influential Regeneration Awards. He collected the special award – made to an 'unsung hero' who has shown a personal commitment to regeneration issues – at a ceremony in London.

The awards are organised by leading magazines Building, Building Design and Property Week, to reward those who have helped breathe new life into areas and delivered improved opportunities for local communities.

The judging panel included Housing and Planning Minister Yvette Cooper, and representatives from the Housing Corporation and regeneration agency English Partnerships.

Barratt is Britain's leading urban regenerator. Every week the Group builds more than 230 new homes on brownfield sites and last year completed over 14,600 homes across Britain – over 12,000 of them on land which had a previous use.
