Student union and Hochtief awarded Energy-Plus Quality Seal

In July 2005, the student union of Mainz University concluded an energy performance contract with Hochtief Facility Management Energy. The subsequent measures implemented by Hochtief produce savings of EUR 260,000 a year on energy costs for the student refectory. The amount of money saved represents 50 percent of the previous energy consumption. In addition, the emission of CO2 has been cut by around 45 percent. This achievement has now earned the Mainz student union the Energy-Plus Quality Seal awarded by the Environment Ministry of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the energy agency "Energy Efficiency Offensive Rhineland-Palatinate" (EOR).

The Energy-Plus Quality Seal is awarded for outstanding ideas and concepts in technical building services, heat insulation, energy generation and utilization, and manufacturing. The assessment criteria include energy input and the anticipated energy savings and ecological benefits.
