bauma 2007 focuses on new extraction and processing machines

The 28th bauma, which takes place from 23 to 29 April 2007 in Munich, will again be devoting much space to a display of machinery and systems for processing the various materials used in construction, civil engineering and road building. Around the world the market in processing machinery is growing fast, but there are also differences from country to country in terms of concentration and emphasis. Regardless of these differences between the markets, there are two themes which are playing an important part in all new construction projects – rising energy costs and the need to reduce emissions.

On the subject of emissions, the manufacturers are concentrating primarily on their suppliers of drive systems. Although the regulations of the EU and the American EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) are continually being tightened, the adaptation is often still regarded as 'business as usual'. With most large-scale sifting and crushing plant, there is sufficient design room to enable even additional units to be integrated without too much problem.

Noise emissions from systems in operation are also playing an ever important role. Often recycling jobs have to be carried out in residential areas, where a high level of noise is not welcome. Here, the challenge for manufacturers is to find new ways of reducing noise emissions.

Energy costs are a prime concern in particular for the manufacturers of asphalt mixing systems. Drying drums and burner units have for years been continually updated in line with advances in modern technology to ensure more cost-effective production of the material. Modern electronic control systems for a more efficient drying process and a high level of thermal efficiency coupled with corresponding insulation and proper sealing against leaked air are just some of the main parameters. Importance is also attached to the storage of the mineral ready for use. Hot-mineral silos ensure that the particular type of mineral required is kept at the right temperature and without demixing.

Whether crushers, sifting plant, or asphalt and concrete mixing systems – the users are spoilt for choice. There are mobile, semi-mobile, transportable and stationery systems to choose from. What is important is that the whole process chain should operate logically and cost-effectively, without any expensive down-times. Preparation processes have now largely been automated and are monitored at every stage by modern SPS control systems. Making sure these processes are organised efficiently and are easy to operate is a big challenge to all manufacturers. A high level of data transparency and reliability is required. At bauma 2007 in Munich from 23 to 29 April 2007, the spotlight will be on new high-performance extraction and processing machines that are also cost-effective. Many of the technological advances may not be obvious at first sight – but these details are essential for trouble-free and rational operation. Visitors to the fair will be able to gather valuable information on the latest advances in energy-efficiency, reducing noise pollution and emissions, and in logical control processes.
